Silent Wings

Where It All Begins
Chapter 1

June 16, 2008

Kenny fell into step beside his mother, trying his best to ignoring the pain from the death grip his mother had on his hand. Kenny slowed as they approached one of the cars his mother had hired to take them to her friend’s house a few blocks away. A man in black opened the door, and Kenny squeaked inwardly as he was roughly shoved into the car. His mother slid into the car beside him, his father walking around to sit on his other side. Kenny kept his posture straight, hoping to avoid getting in trouble. The ride seemed to take forever even though it was more than likely ten minutes at most. His sneakers were quiet compared to the clacking his mother’s heels made beside him. The sun hadn’t quite set yet giving time for one to admire the mixture of orange red pinkish hues that colored the sky.

Kenny didn’t keep his gaze up long as the front door to the Hollywood perfect white house opened. Artificial light betrayed those in the sky, and blocked the features of the woman in the door way other than she was chubby trying to pass for skinny by wearing a badly made corset. The trio stopped, exchanging the formal greetings before the woman allowed them to come in. Kenny instantly went to the backyard were all the other children, whom had been dragged to the event, were currently playing on the merry-go-round. Kenny sat on the step, his fifteen-year-old body a bit too big comfortably on the stairway. He didn’t sit for long as a blonde girl noticed him.
“Hey, Kenny, wanna come join us?” Kenny flinched away from the horrible southern accent the girl used. She wasn’t even from the south, she came from England. This is what annoyed Kenny even more with the girl, she pretended with everything. He loved her body, with its perfect S-line and five foot six height. Didn’t help the fact that she had tried to seduce Kenny a number of times and was still trying.
“No.” Kenny stood and walked over to a tall willow tree, the leaves in bloom hiding him from sight of the other teens. He didn’t like company, despised it really. His body was beginning to fill out and attract the attention of girls, the image made him shiver. Arms wrapped around his shoulders, draping a body along his back causing Kenny to tense visibly.
“Are we still going to be able to do it, since your parents said I wasn’t allowed to stay?” the voice of his best friend had Kenny relaxing instantly. Well, Max was more than just a best friend, but to others they were just best friends. Kenny turned his head to stare into the deep chocolate brown eyes that smiled at him, dark brown hair and black mixed as they peeked into Kenny’s vision as Max leaned forward to put his forehead on Kenny’s.
“Yes, actually I have. Do your parents still think you’re coming over to my house?” Kenny leaned into the hug as Max removed his arms to wrap them around his waist. His hair fell into his eyes as he leaned his head back onto Max’s shoulder, surprised that he was almost unable to reach it. “How tall are you now?”
“I think so, but either way we can say your mom changed her mind again. Eh, why the sudden interest about my height? Is it because you finally realized I’m growing taller than your 5’8”?” Kenny chuckled, elbowing Max in the ribs lightly.
“Alright, that works out great then. I asked because I like leaning against you.” Kenny smiled, his head rolling so he could press a chaste kiss against Max’s temple.
“Hey, Kenny, promise me you won’t regret what happens tonight.” A serious air fell about them, and Kenny let it sit there for a minute before stepping away and pulling Max to sit against the tree.
“I won’t I promise, you’ll take great care of me. How can I regret this, when I have you taking care of me?” Kenny sat on his knees in between Max’s spread legs, his hand brushing the brown hair out of the way. Kenny smiled into those dark eyes that were so filled with worry. On impulse, Kenny bent forward and pressed his lips to Max’s lingering a bit. Kenny had been tense and nervous ever since he and Max had come up with the plan. All of that flowed away with the feel of Max’s lips against his, parting slightly as the kiss became more heated. A hand ran through his hair, as Kenny cupped his hand around the back of Max’s neck.
“Oh. My. God. You are both in so much trouble.” Kenny and Max sprang apart and glared at the blond. Her eyes held a hint of hurt, which confused Kenny.
“Why? You only wanted to use both of us, so what does it matter other than you can’t have either of us. Did you think we were really that stupid?” Kenny’s voice wasn’t warm anymore as he stood. His gaze cold as he felt Max stand beside him. He would have laughed at the way she reminded him of a cat with its back arched.
“I didn’t want to use you. I didn’t even want Max, he just seemed the best way to get to you. You never bothered to see me though. You only had that bastard in your eyes.” Kenny linked hands with Max, hoping holding hands would help him from smacking the girl. “Besides, don’t your parents hate homosexuals?”
“So?” Max spoke this time, his voice holding an odd calm for just being insulted. “You don’t seem to understand that threatening people doesn’t hand you what you want. Even if you take this to his parents they surely would believe me over you, not to mention he would hate you.”
The girl looked like she was about to cry, her eyes holding unshed tears. Kenny scoffed, slamming his shoulder into hers as he walked by, dragging Max along with him. They released hands before emerging from the cover of the willow trees, and a good thing too as Kenny spotted his parents on the porch.
“Kenny, it’s time to leave.” Kenny tensed for a second before walking up to his parents, who were looking at him curiously now.
“Mom, Dad, is it alright if I walk Max home? He doesn’t feel well, and I want to make sure he gets home safely. His parents already agreed his should go home and I offered, since you’re always telling me to help, figuring it was alright.” Kenny’s parents shared a look, not one of happiness, before nodding.
“Don’t be long, you forget what tonight is.” Kenny’s father spoke, his voice a annoying high pitch, that went with an equally annoying face. His black hair and blue eyes were the only thing Kenny inherited from him. His mother, wrapped a slender arm around his father’s shoulders, her beauty one most women her age would die to have.
“I won’t, shall we all leave then?” Kenny motioned for Max to come up when his parents started walking forward. The four walked to the car, Kenny and Max waving as it left sight.
“I’m sick now huh?” Kenny smiled at the teasing note, and nodded. Max smacked him lightly on the shoulder, his face holding a mocking hurt expression.
“Meanie, let’s go. I want to get this started.” Kenny smiled, and walked side by side with Max. “You sure you want to do this, tonight? I mean you only have three years until you’re out from under their rule. We’ve waited this long after all.”
“I want to do it now, tonight. Who knows what will happen in three years time. Are you having second thoughts?” Kenny glanced over at Max, whose gaze was on his feet. Kenny couldn’t help but admire the strong body the other had, compared to his weak one. Straight shoulder length dark brown hair shined against the last rays of the sun.
“No, I just don’t want you to regret this is all. I love you after all.” Kenny smiled and a comfortable silence fell over them. He knew Max hadn’t expected a confession back, and he wasn’t ready to say the words out loud. Before either knew it, they were half way to Max’s house.
“Hey, let’s backtrack here.” Max nodded and followed Kenny into the thick underbrush of vegetation. The two kept quiet, ignoring the dog that started barking and took a sharp turn left and before they knew it they were in front of a two story brick house with dark tiling.
“Alright, you wait outside my window until I tap on it.” Kenny pressed his lips against Max’s when the other nodded. “I’m going to head back.”
Kenny walked back the way he had come, his mind tumbling in anticipation of what was to happen. Did he really have to the guts to go through with this? Would everything really work out the way he had planned? Shaking his head, Kenny turned down the walkway to his house. His father stood in front of the porch, his mother in the doorway and neither looked happy. Kenny slowed, thinking on how long he had been out, not that it mattered.
“It does not take half an hour to walk from the Benson’s house to your friend’s house. What were you doing?” Each sentence was kept short and abrupt, much like an interrogation session. Kenny opened his mouth to speak when his father shoved him forward, causing to trip on a stair and onto his mother. “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?”
Kenny’s mother placed a hand against Kenny, trailing her hand down his chest. Kenny sputtered as he scampered off his mother, well more like tried to but ended up being jerked off by his father. His father roughly shoved to the floor, something cracking on impact. Kenny didn’t worry about it though, since he didn’t feel searing pain anywhere.
“DO YOU DARE ASSAULT YOUR MOTHER IN FRONT OF ME?” Kenny blinked back the hurt that surfaced and quickly shook his head. “Go to your room.”
Kenny stood, the cold calm in his father’s voice frightening. He quickly made his way around his mother, who was looking at him smugly now, and into his room. The familiar dark green walls giving off little comfort as Kenny looked around. The room was spotless, a desk with a small lamp and a cup of pens sat under one window across from the bed, which was cleanly made with white covers. Other than a chair and clothes in the closet, nothing else consisted in the room. Sighing, Kenny walked over to the window quickly and opening it.
“Max!” Kenny whispered harshly, looking over at his door incase his parent’s came. He jumped when a body slide in next to his, the smell of fresh dirt following. “You didn’t track dirt in, did you?”
“Of course not silly, now come here.” Kenny checked the floor nervously, before stepping into Max’s outstretched arms. Tears stung his eyes as he quietly told Max why he hadn’t been as quick to get to his room, though Max had seen what had happened before they had gone onto the porch. “Don’t worry, everything will be alright.”
Kenny nodded against the other’s chest, tightening his arms. He felt fingers slide under his chin, forcing him to look up. Briefly, alarm went through him and he had to force himself to remember it was Max. However, instead of being kissed as he expected, Max just smiled at him.
“Why don’t we get where we won’t get caught?” With an embarrassed flush, Kenny nodded and walked towards his bed. Max looked at him, a small smile on his face. “Are you sure you want to go through with this?”
“There’s no turning back, I have to go through with it.” Kenny grabbed onto Max’s sleeve as the other nodded solemnly. Max sat on the bed beside Kenny, wrapping an arm around the younger’s shoulders, pulling him close.
“Everything will be alright.” Kenny almost burst into tears at the sadness he heard in Max’s whispered words. Kenny heard familiar footsteps coming close to his door. Panicking, Kenny pulled Max towards the closet, who went willingly pressing a quick kiss to Kenny’s lips. “Stay strong, it’ll pass soon enough.”
Kenny didn’t bother nodding, instead flinging himself on his bed just as his door opened. He twisted, noting that Max had shut his closet enough so no one could see him but enough to catch everything, and looked at his parents. Shock rippled through him at seeing both his parents. He saw the familiar box, and kept the fear off his expression. Both heads looked to his still open window.
“Darling, why is your window open?” Kenny looked at his window, and put a blank expression on his face.
“I was hot, so I opened the window.” He could tell they didn’t really buy it, but dropped it. Kenny watched as his mother walked to his desk and opened the kit. A syringe appeared and was soon filled with a clear liquid. He went to scoot into a corner, but was stopped as his father grabbed his wrists, tying them. Kenny whimpered in fear, only making his mother smirk.
“Now, Kenny darling, you know what happens. Why do you still fear the pain?” Kenny wanted to scream he didn’t fear the pain. He hated that the people who were supposed to protect him from occurrences like this. No, he would speak up.
“I’m not scared of the pain, mom. I hate that those who are supposed to love, protect, and keep their children from such situations not create them.” The mother’s face contorted with anger, and she walked up her hand connecting with his cheek, snapping his head to the side.
“Relax, free your mind and I’ll give you the drug.” Kenny couldn’t deny the happiness at the thought of being able to get high. Kenny relaxed, hating himself for liking half of what his parent’s did to him. He felt the needle pierce the skin, and gasped as he felt the liquid enter his bloodstream.
Kenny felt the world fade, his mind ignoring the roaming his body, as golden tendrils began to sprout from everything. Twirling, dancing, and merging as the blackness claimed his vision. June 21, 2008

Kenny felt like he had been floating forever as he opened his eyes, blinking against the harsh light. His vision blurred as he tried to shift to a more comfortable position, sending everything out of focus. The only distinguishable features he could make of his room were the white and cold. Slowly, everything slid back into place as he managed a sitting position with the help of the remote that had taken him a good minute to find. He realized he was in a hospital, which would explain the cold and white. An IV ran from his arm, causing his heart rate to jump in panic.

“You’re awake?” Max’s voice drew his gaze from the needle in his skin to worried eyes. Kenny nodded in answer, his gaze following Max as the latter sat down in a chair beside the bed. “I called the police as soon as …they, left. I met the police at my house, with a blank search warrant, and showed them the video. They arrested your parents and took the tape as evidence. A attorney was appointed to your case and she said since the doctors weren’t sure when you would awake that you wouldn’t need to testify. The video would be more than enough. The final trail is today.”
Kenny nodded, his body still felt like it was floating and the news didn’t send it back where his sight said it was. Finally, the abuse would stop. It didn’t matter that he didn’t remember the last session, he remember all the others. This was the first time his dad had ever participated though, and that just made the situation worse.
“I’m going to press the button for the nurse.” It wasn’t a question and Kenny didn’t move except to place his head on the pillow. He heard a beep beside him and turned towards it. A remote with rows of buttons were held gently in Max’s hand, his finger hovering above a light orange one. He watched as Max tucked the remote back into its proper space then reach a hand out to brush against his forehead.
The clack of heels echoed in the silent room, and was soon followed by a busty nurse, who looked like she belonged in a porn magazine. Her dark blond hair didn’t move much like the rest of her body. She took one look at Max, her gaze lingering, before she looked over at Kenny who didn’t return her gaze. The clacking came closer and Kenny jumped as an ice-cold hand pressed rather roughly against his head causing him to wince.
“He seems to be running a small fever, probably after effects of the drug. Has he spoken at all?” Kenny did his best to look angry; though he was sure, he failed when the nurse let out a small scoff.
“No, ma’am he hasn’t.” Kenny smacked the nurse’s hand away, not liking the feel of it against his skin.
“Well, he’s not paralyzed like the doctor feared.” Kenny saw Max stiffen at the nurse’s disgusted tone, and Kenny shook his head.
“Ma’am, I speak just fine.” Kenny’s voice cracked on the last syllable, causing him and Max to wince while the nurse smirked in with unknown satisfaction. She wrote a few more things down, jabbing the pen down at the end of every sentence. Kenny was about to ask for the doctor when the nurse turned and left.
“Was it just me or was she a total bitch?” Kenny kept his voice at a whisper, hoping to avoid his voice cracking again.
“No I saw it too. Hey I’m going to get you some water.” Kenny nodded, watching as Max left and in came a male doctor who looked to be in his mid-sixties. He had a clipboard with him and a file.
“Hello, Kenny, how are you feeling?” The doctor was polite enough, Kenny supposed, but he didn’t feel comfortable alone with him.
“I feel like I’m floating, my body has a dull ache, but I already know what that’s from.” Kenny played with the tag that peeked out from under the cover, trying very hard to ignore the scratching of the pen.
“Alright, we’re going to draw some blood and see if there is any more of the drug left in your body. As for the ache, it should go away with time and medicine.” The doctor did routine stuff, and then left without another word. Kenny had to keep from flinching as the doctor touched him.
“Nah, I thought it would disappear just by talking to you, asshole.” Kenny felt crazy talking to thin air and was happy when Max walked in with a confused look.
“Were you talking to yourself?” Kenny shook his head, and took the sandwich, jello, and water from his boyfriend. He took a huge bite and began chewing. The bread was tough and the ham wasn’t too great, but it was better than nothing. “Kenny, do you…do you remember anything from last night?”
Kenny paused and swallowed awkwardly. “No, I don’t remember. The last thing I remember were weird golden things coming off everything to merge together into darkness. Why?”
“Oh, just curious.” Kenny gave the ‘yeah right’ look and used guilt to his advantage, and in the end Max spilled. “Your parents drugged you and you went loopy, saying everything was growing gold tentacles and well your father and mother tied you to the bed and began…doing things that I don’t want to go over again. It’s best you don’t remember what they did.”
Kenny’s appetite went out the window, so he finished the tasteless water and handed everything back to Max.
“Well, you said they were going to jail now, right? That means everything will be fine, nothing to worry about.” Kenny tried to keep the positive note in his voice and thought he had done very well, if not for the disbelieving look in Max’s eye. Kenny reached a hand out, taking Max’s in his, giving it a reassuring squeeze. “What are you so worried about?”
“You’re going to be taken away from here and sent to a different state on the other side of the continent. Then more than likely they won’t allow you to have contact with anyone from the town you came from. I’m going to lose you.” Kenny felt his heart crack as tears formed in Max’s eyes. He had known all of this, had hoped Max would understand, but it still didn’t stop the way his heart twisted at the thought of leaving Max.
“I…I kn…know, but I will contact you after two years if I can. I promise, and my email won’t change until I send you the new one. We won’t lose contact.” Kenny lifted his hand and held his pinky out smiling when Max wrapped his pinky around and they tilted their hands so their thumbs touched pointing upwards.
“Are you Kenny?” Both boys started at the sudden unfamiliar female voice, and dropped their hands instantly. Kenny gazed at a woman who looked like she belonged in the window of a clothes shop.
“Are you a mannequin?” The question popped out of his mouth before he realized it, and he slapped a hand over his mouth as only her eyes moved with obvious anger in them. “Sorry, it slipped?”
“I’ll be your social worker until we can have you adopted. My name is Mrs. Smith. I’ve spoken with a doctor and you are free to be released tomorrow if there are no traces of the drug left in your blood. If there are traces, you will be held until it leaves your system. Your parent’s trail is over and they will spend only 3 years in jail since there was only evidence of the one incident. I would like to get you as far away from them as possible. I have parents available as soon as we leave the city.” Kenny’s jaw dropped as the woman kept talking, her face never moving once, except her lips and even then, they barely moved. Her hair was just as unmoving as her face, wrapped in a tight strict old schoolteacher bun. He looked down at the mention of his parents and the thought of leaving. At least this was for the best; he had done all he could. Three years should be enough time to get away so they couldn’t find him. He would have to get a new name probably, because they would come look for him, of that he was sure.
“Alright, Kenny, if you’ll lie down now we shall take that blood sample.” Six eyes turned towards the doctor, who paid no attention to anyone but Kenny. Kenny watched as the doctor ran a rubbing alcohol patch against his arm, but turned his head as the needle came close to his skin. He instinctively grabbed Max’s hand and squeezed as the needle entered his skin, causing his body to start shaking, and took blood. He only slackened his grip slightly as the needle left his skin. “I’ll have the results as soon as possible, Mrs. Smith.”
Mrs. Smith nodded, turning to follow the doctor out the door. Kenny lay on the bed, his gaze empty. He dimly heard Max whispering to him, barely felt the hand the stroked his hair. Memories kept flashing through his mind most too fast for him to keep up with. Suddenly, he was upright with his arms wrapped around Max, who was standing and leaning over the bed so the IV needle didn’t jiggle in his arm.
“Hey, hey, what’s wrong? Come on, scoot so I can lay beside you. Maybe that will help you.” Kenny nodded numbly, scooting so they both fit on the bed, the arm with the needle facing the ceiling.
“Just stay with me so I can sleep?” Kenny whispered, burying his face in Max’s shirt inhaling the others cologne. Strong arms wrapped around him carefully.
“I think that will be alright. The doctors can’t really complain since I’m keeping you from flipping, right?” Kenny let out a weak chuckle and nodded, his mind already starting to shut down for sleep. He felt a hand start petting his hair and it only lulled him to sleep quicker.

June 28, 2008

It had been a week since the first encounter with the mannequin social worker. Kenny had been released from the hospital, saying good-bye to Max there. The two had managed to keep the tears to a minimum. Kenny’s name changed for security purposes to to Fai. Fai was now staying at a hotel in a different state; he wasn’t sure which one since he hadn’t been paying attention. The drive had been long and they had rarely stopped. He had fallen asleep many times, only to wake up in a cold sweat. Finally, Fai had fallen asleep and managed to stay asleep more than half an hour. His world began to shake and a high-pitched voice interrupted his dream and wouldn’t leave him alone even when he smacked at the outside force. Fai felt his shirt shift and he instantly shifted so the cold air wasn’t brushing across his skin. That didn’t stop ice cold water from penetrating the blankets or his dream. Gasping he went to a sitting position, his teeth now chattering.
“Ah, I see you finally decided to join us, Fai.” A smug voice floated over the freezing cold and Fai turned to glare at her. A towel was thrust in his face and he jerked it from the social worker’s hand.
“Was it really necessary to dump water on me?” He ran the towel over his face, rubbing roughly to get some warmth back in his face. He heard hushed whispers and peeked out from the fluffy white towel. A male of Asian descent stood with his arm wrapped a little Asian woman, their black hair brushed their shoulders. The woman brought a hand to her mouth in disgusted shock and her dark brown hues shifted to him for a moment before shifting back to the social worker. They were talking about him if that was any indication at all. Before he could voice his annoyance the trio turned to him.
“Fai, this is Mr. and Mrs. Lee. They came here to see if you would like to be adopted into their family.” Fai stiffened and couldn’t ignore the feeling of being like an animal on display. He wasn’t allowed to choose who took care of him until he turned eighteen.
“Hello.” He dipped his head in greeting, then wondering why he had done such a thing. It didn’t matter because the two were already greeting him back, the woman with an expression that said she found him cute, cute of all things.
“You’ll spend the day with them.”
“What!” He squeaked out as the social worker spoke. He didn’t care if the social worker had stripped searched the couple, that didn’t mean anything. Not to mention she was letting them take him with them wherever they wanted.
“Go take a shower and make yourself presentable!” Fai could only gape and later think to himself that he looked like a fish.
“Didn’t you already give me my daily washing when you dumped ice cold freaking water on me?” He retorted as he stood, resisting the urge to hug the stupid woman, who glared at him as if she dared him to defy her even more. “Fine, I’ll go take another bloody shower!”
Fai left the room, aware that he probably wasn’t making a good impression with the Lees but he didn’t care as he shut the bathroom door with a loud thud. Sighing, he slid down the door. That woman hated him, he was positive of it now.
A sigh escaped his lips as he leaned against the door, the cool wood warm against his back. He could hear muddled voices through the door and moved to start the shower. He didn’t want to hear, he didn’t want to know that, that bitch was signing his life away to someone he had never met before. Sure, he was going to spend the day with them, but that was one day compared to two years until he was able to leave on his own. Assuming he was still in the United States then. He paused in front of the mirror as he waited for the water warm. His arms were covered with black and yellowish bruises from where the needle had entered wrong or his parents had grabbed him a little too roughly. He shivered as he stepped under the now hot spray of water. He imagined his troubles washing off his skin, off his mind and into the drain, along with the world for a few moments. He felt better as he stepped out of the shower, his hand grabbing the towel he had set on the counter before stepping in. He had tossed the one the mannequin handed him in a bin. Smiling, he dried off and dressed in clothes that someone had put on the counter by the door.
Fear burst his happy bubble and he quickly dressed. He hadn’t even heard the door open. Fai felt like slapping himself for not noticing someone had been in the room with him. Maybe they hadn’t entered the room, it looked like someone had hurriedly put the clothes on the counter, like they had used one hand instead of two. Fai fixed his black hair so his bangs covered one dark blue eye. Smirking at his reflection, he turned and left the bathroom. The room went silent as he stepped around the corner and all eyes were on him. Fai froze and looked from the couple to the mannequin in confusion.
“I see you are ready to go. Mr. Lee, if you and your wife would like to adopt him just stop by the office tomorrow morning.” Fai glared at the social worker as she walked past him and out of the room. The tension in the air rose as the couple looked at each other than him.
“What would you like to do, Fai?” Fai flinched away from the name, not quite used to it yet. The man looked at him with sad understanding in his eyes. Fai stared back at him, shrugging instead of voicing his indifference.
“How about we take him to meet the boys.” Fai didn’t like the sound of that, but he had already said he didn’t care.
With plans made, Fai could only follow along and soon they were pulling up to a tan house with two males that looked to be about his fighting in the front yard. Fai heard a sigh from the front seat as the orange haired male was flipped easily over the shorter one. The shorter male didn’t waste time and was on the orange haired one in an instant, twisting the other’s arm into a painful position behind his back.
“The short one with black and red hair is Li Shi, the one who is under him is Meng Bao. They are practicing their martial arts and getting their clothes dirty.” Mrs. Lee acted like it was normal and more upset that the clothes were getting dirty then the two hurting each other. “Alright, out of the car, maybe the two will teach you a few moves.”
Fai opened the door and was almost plowed over as the two males from before rushed past to their mom. Two more males appeared, both giving him a once over before each began a serious of rapid-fire questions.
“What took so long?”
“Did you bring food home?”
“Who is this?”
The last question was directed towards their parents while looking directly at him and by the little one who had flipped the one called Meng Bao. The male, Li Shi, stepped closer to Fai and poked him in the head to which Fai flicked him on the forehead. Dark brown eyes blinked in surprise before a wide grin showed straight white teeth.
“I like him! Is he the one you said you would be adopting?” Fai let out a squeak as he was jerked from the car and into a hug that would have broken his bones if he hadn’t yelped. “Oops, sorry, hey what’s your name?”
“My name is Ken…Fai. My name is Fai.” Fai winced as he almost said the name he had used for the past 15 years.
“My name is Jay, but I prefer to be called Li Shi. Wanna learn some martial arts? I really have to practice. I have a competition tomorrow and I want to practice the very basics and it’s easier if I teach someone.” Fai opened his mouth to say no only to have the other pull a puppy dog look. Curse him for having a soft heart, but he nodded anyway.
“Li Shi, let him be introduced to the others.” Li Shi stopped in his hauling of the poor boy and nodded a disappointed look on his beautiful features. “Fai, this is Qiang Liang, the one beside him is Wei Tao and we already told you about Meng Bao. Li Shi is well you’ve met him.”
Fai looked over the other males noticing that they were all really skinny and buff to some degree. At least they all had different colored hair. Qiang Liang’s hair was much like Fai’s, shoulder length and raven black. Wei Tao’s was silver and reached all the way to his waist. The two looked at him with the same face of mixed emotions. They weren’t sure if he would be trouble or not. Fai smiled; glad someone had the sense to see if he would cause trouble.
“Alright, he’s met everyone. I’m stealing him!” Before anyone could protest, Fai was over the shorter male’s shoulder and they were running to the yard.
“Hey, put me down. I can run!” Fai hit the small of the other’s back, unable to ignore the pain in his lower stomach. The ground came up to meet him by kissing his chin hard, and he found himself lying on Li Shi. “Oww, are you alright?”
Fai rolled off the other rubbing his chin as he poked the fallen boy.
“You know it’s not nice to poke those who made your falling softer!” Fai instantly started poking the other faster before tickling the little male. Turns out Li Shi was very ticklish as he twitched before going into spasms on the ground.
“Ah! You are ticklish. Haha, that’s so going against you at the moment, little person!” Fai teased, thinking he had the upper hand until he found himself under his prey and being tickled himself. His sides began to hurt from laughter and abused nerves.
“Do you give up?” The fingers stopped long enough for him to shake his head before beginning the torture again. “Give already.”
“Al…Alright, I give. Let me up!” Fai’s breathing came in heavy pants as he lay there even after Li Shi rolled off him, lying in the dirt beside him. He opened his eyes, staring into obsidian hues a smile on his face. “You’re pretty awesome. Betcha can’t catch me though!”
With that, Fai took off, not looking behind him as he heard Li Shi retort he could. The whole day passed with the two playing together and becoming friends quickly. The day ended sooner than Fai would have liked and he wondered if he could convince the social worker to let him stay the night. He called and oddly, she agreed.
“What did she say? Don’t keep it to yourself, your killing me with the damn suspense dude!” Fai giggled as his head went back and forth with the force of Li Shi shaking him.
“She said I could stay!” Fai smiled as Li Shi jumped in the air before pulling him into a hug. Fai hugged back and started as ten more arms wrapped around him. The rest of the family had joined in the hug. This is where Fai belonged and he was beginning to realize it.

A year passed after that and the Lees adopted Fai. The family moved to China as Mr. Lee became very ill. They lived in Beijing happily. Fai learned Chinese rather easily with six teachers helping him. Life couldn’t get any better, but as the saying goes there’s always happiness at the end of a hard time, so it goes the other way around.
